It’s Monday, October 7, 2013, and here’s what we’ve got going this month:
First and formost. . . Paige’s surgery is scheduled for October 22nd so it’s an important health alert month. We’re all feeling the changes of the season and want to stay well at a time when it’s most difficult. That said, thanks for honoring our sick policies and keeping your children home for at least 24 hours AFTER a fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. Allergies are crazy but coughs and colds are relentless now, too, so be on the lookout and stay home and rest for 48 hours after the onset of cold symptoms. Also, let us know if we need to bring your child to you if you have a sick sibling in the car. It’s best if we come to you, rather than bringing your sick child in. If you question anything, ask.
Also. . .did you notice our new sign the children made? “Please no furry animals. We are allergic.” A sweet way to let you know we have to take care of each other so thanks for leaving your pets outside at drop off and pick up so we can all breathe easier.
It’s Jury Duty “On Call” week for me so not sure where that will take me but, regardless, I plan to see the West Wing families at Back to School Night/Open House on Thursday, the 10th, from 6:30 to 8:45. The teachers are planning another informative, fun evening so we hope you’ve got your sitters lined up and ready to come and find out what your children are doing. Sign ups for nibbles are on the door.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are continuing for the West Wing families so if you haven’t already met with your teacher, check out the sign up sheets at the entrance to the classroom.
We are closed on Monday, October 14th, for Columbus Day but the teachers will be here to continue the Parent-Teacher conferences and East Wing families are welcome to sign up for times if that works for you. During this day, you can bring your child for the half hour designated conference time. All the teachers are here. It’s a working day for us.
Photo Reshoot/Makeups are scheduled for Wednesday, October 9th, in the morning. I think those of you who missed have been contacted but check in with Kris if you have any questions about that-if it’s raining, we will have to reschedule, again.
Hope you’ve bought your tickets for Comedy Night on Sunday, October 13th. Greg Fitzsimmons and Zoe Friedman are working on the line up and laughing as they plan. We have Neal Brennan, co-creator of The Chappelle Show and Laurie Kilmartin, writer on Conan O’Brien joining Greg. More to come. Doors open for drinks and nibbles at 5:30. Show is from 7 to 9. Bring your friends! We want to fill all 200 seats!
I will be out from October 15th to the 21st but will be email and cell phone accessible. Kris will be out the mornings of October 10th, 24th, and the 30th. Did you know she’s working on her Master’s Thesis? Whew! I will be here when she is not and she will be here when I am not. And that feels good!
The Culinary Appreciation Team has scheduled their cooking/photo day to be on Sunday, October 20th at 10:00 as they plan for the second edition of the NSW Recipe book. Contact Maya (Emmett’s mom/EW) or Maya (Fiona’s mom/EW) if you have any questions.
Coffee with Roleen is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23rd, from 9:30 to 11:30 and Maya and Doug Shemer have volunteered to host. Their address is 1009 Wellesley Ave. L.A. 90049. There’s a sign up sheet on the door.
Reggio Revisited is a four-part series for educators that Ellen Khokha (The Growing Place) and I started last year as a way for teachers to connect while learning more about the Reggio Approach. There is a flier on the door for those of you who may be interested. It will begin again onThursday, October 24th, from 5:00 to 7:00 and 20 people or so will be here at NSW.
Our Halloween Parade is scheduled for Thursday, the 31st from 9:30 to 10:00 or so. Details are in the “Articles” section of the NSWparents blog under Halloween News 2013. There are also a couple of articles that are interesting in relation to fears and fantasy. Remember, when preparing your child’s costume, refrain from bringing masks to school and keep on the lookout for other notices closer to the Halloween time.
And, thanks! For being so amazing. The “What is Reggio?” Night was sweet and we will be scanning some great articles that will stay housed on our Reggio link on the blog for your reference. The Parent Teams are settling in and are always looking for help if you haven’t found your niche yet and I understand that the EW and the WW potlucks were a huge success. I love that! I do hope the NSWparents blog is a comfortable and easy way for you to receive information and if you’re not linked up to our yahoo group, contact Kris and she’ll help you. It’s a good source of a variety of information.
And so. . .It’s Monday, October 7, 2013. And there it is. Enjoy your weekend and keep your fingers crossed that I don’t have to serve on Jury Duty!! xoxoR
