It’s Monday, January 4, 2010
Happy New Year, Friends! We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow. We’re here sorting, cleaning, tossing, and preparing for your arrival. Here’s what we’ve got going this month:
As of tomorrow: Be sure to sign up for the Community Snacks for the month. We also have a sign up sheet in the hallway for Flowers for the Classrooms. Help us eat healthily and see beauty all around!
Thursday, January 7th: I’ve decided last minute to throw together an evening here at NSW for parents to come and dialogue with me about the Reggio approach. What are we really doing? What are the basics values and how are we working together with other parents and schools to make learning visible to the community? What is this Wonders of Learning exhibit that’s coming? How are the schools working together? Find out how you can help. Kind of a Reggio 101. I’ll get out the wine, bring some nibbles, and Maisha will be here if you need child care. Time will be 6:30 to 8:45. Sign ups on the door as you enter the school.
Friday, January 15th: The school will be closed for our annual Teacher Retreat. Every year I have the teachers come to my house in Santa Barbara for two days of focused work and play. We’ve invited Flor Ferro from First Presbyterian Nursery School to join us. We have a lot of work to do before our North American Reggio Emilia Alliance (NAREA) tour in April. Flor comes every Friday afternoon to work with the teachers on documenting our environment and we are always buoyed by her energy and insight.
Saturday, January 16: Let’s go bowling! Look for information in your child’s file box.
Monday, January 18th: The school will be closed in honor of Martin Luther King’s birthday.
Tuesday, January 19th: Marilyn McGrath is back and putting together a Four Part Parenting Series here at NSW (4 Tuesday nights). Information is in your child’s file box. It is a great opportunity to sit with an expert and gain parenting strategies.
Wednesday, January 27th, 28th, 29th: Wonders of Learning opens.
So that’s it for Monday, January 4th. See you soon. Roleen
