It’s Monday – from Roleen

It’s Friday, May 30th, 2014, and we are in the throws of preparing for the end of the school year. Along with the many goodbyes, we are at the same time welcoming our new families as they begin their transitioning from home to school. None of it happens without a whole lot of care and with it, the emotions that come along for the ride. All of it’s great. None of it’s easy and yet we know it’s important to mark the passage of time and honor each of us in our own unique life’s journey. With that, I am quiet with gratitude and my heart is warmed with thoughts of all of you.

. . .and now we still have work to do! Here’s what we’ve got going:

June 7th (2:00 to 8:00): It’s Jim Heimann’s famous L.A.Tour and it’s always so much fun. We’ve got a full busload but there’s still two seats left so let me know if you’ll be able to join us. $125 a ticket and it’s worth every penny!!

June 7th: Teachers will be participating in the Relay for Life at Venice High. Cindy is the point person for information if you want to drop by to support them. Proceeds from the event go directly to the American Cancer Society. Click the link and enter our zip code (90066) and The New School-West. http://www.relayforlife.org/?gclid=COrDsciQm74CFQeVfgodKb8ApQ. Information has also been sent on the blog so you can enter “Relay for Life” in the “Search” section and it should pop up.

June 10th (8:30 to 10:00): East Wing Parents’ Day. Come and let us pamper you a bit. The children will make you some fresh squeezed OJ and we’ll have coffee, tea, and a few little nibbles. But before you head off to work, plan to stay, walk the classrooms and let your child show you their favorite spaces. We’ll have a group circletime with you at 9:45 or so and then we’ll say our goodbyes at 10:00(ish) so you can get on your way. If your child does not come on Tuesday, please bring them and enjoy the morning with us. They have a gift for you!

June 11th (8:30 to 10:00): West Wing Parents’ Day. If your child does not come on Wednesday, please bring them and enjoy the morning with us. They have a gift for you!

June 12th (6:15 to 8:30): Continue the Dialogue from our Educator’s Tour in Sweden. The teachers and parents will gather to deeper explore our questions surrounding Identity and how we see ourselves in relation to our gender. This is a follow up to our Parent Enrichment afternoon last month. Under “important docs” at the bottom is an article to start the reading. If you can join us, there’s a sign up on the door.

June 17th (7:00 to 9:00): WE ARE LOOKING FOR A HOST for this year’s Wine with Roleen for the Graduating Parents. This evening was established a few years ago as a way to support the parents who are moving onto “the big world”! Recognizing that the children are more ready than we are. . . How can we support each other in the transition?

June 19th (6:45 to 9:00): Parent Orientation Night. Can you believe it’s time to welcome our new and returning families?! Didn’t we just do this?! If you can be here to greet, bring some nibbles and lend your support, great. We’ll let you know details closer to the time. Check for coming sign ups sheets.
June 20th (5:30 to 8:30): Teacher Appreciation Dinner. The Teacher Appreciation Committee is organizing this and it looks to be another great tribute to our amazing teachers. It’s a little different this year so keep up with the posts that are going out. Thanks, to the sweetest teachers ever! There’s an envelope marked “Teacher Appreciation” in the office.

June 22nd (1:00 to 4:00): It’s now a tradition that Jim and I officially thank YOU for being a part of and making this an amazing school year with a Taco/Marguerita party in our backyard at 1636 S. Point View St. in L.A. 90035. It’s for parents only, just a day to hang out and let us appreciate you. The teachers are organizing a Kids Day Out from 12:30 to 4:30 for you if you need to find something for the children to do while you “slip out” for a couple of hours. Check out the sign up sheets on the door.

June 28th: NSW Campout. There’s a sign up sheet on the door. Always a fun event and. . no. . .I won’t be there. I’m leaving the camping to the professionals!!!

And so. . It’s Friday, May 30th, 2014. . . and there it is! Enjoy the ride! xoxoxoxoRoleen
