On Thursday July 15th, Cindy introduced wire to some WW children in the
East Wing studio. She explained that the wire is a metal and can be
very sharp, and so are the tools; pliers and wire cutters. Building upon our observations and their experiences, we know they are capable and can handle the wire and tools. She shared the coiling technique as a first experience.
Jessica continued with the wire in the EW studio.
“Look I can cut it with one hand.”- Laurel
“I can wrap it around so good.”-Sam

“I cut the wire and I twisted it.”- Jackson
The children so far came up with 2 different ways to make wire coils:
“I made a coil by wrapping the wire around the pliers, and scraped the
wire off.”- Laurel
“I wrapped the wire using my fingers. It’s a flat coil.” – Owen
I am very excited about working with wire again.
I am eager to see what this group of children bring to
the wire. I also look forward to provoking their work with beads and other materials. -Jessica
