Colored Water
Experiences with Colored Water are introduced to children as an avenue to explore color in an open-ended way. As they pour, combine and measure they are strengthening their connection with how colors can be combined to make new colors. This is the first step towards their discovery of paints. During the next few months the children will have opportunities to work with multiple paint mediums.
Some of the children’s discoveries:
Imonie: I mixed red and blue.
Michael: I mixed red too. I made red-yellow.
Charlie: (Adding to his cup of blue water) I put yellow and it made green.
Maddox: I put all the colors together.
Teacher: The colors changed when you put them together. What does the new color remind you of?
Maddox: It’s brownish. It’s brownish brownie.
Tatiana: I made light green and dark green!
Payton: I made purple. Red and blue changed to purple.
