Mazzy, Julien, and Sammy decided to construct a skyscraper together. The children had been testing how high they can build. They also have developed a system where they take on different roles as they construct.
Mazzy: Can I have those tubes, Julien?
Julien: Which one? This one?
Mazzy: Yes! Yes! Thank you, Julien.
Mazzy: Sammy, look behind you! It’s so tall. Move, move.
Sammy: looks and smiles at Mazzy: Ok, Mazzy I’ll move.
Mazzy adds the last piece. The skyscraper falls. The children begin to laugh as they watch their structure falling.
Sammy: We can repair it.
Julien: I know, we need to make it balance with tape.
Mazzy: It’s staying up!
The children have constructed a system and language of working together: an executer of ideas, an expert on supplies, and a follow up idea person. With all this in place, Mazzy was still aware of the whole crew and their safety. The teachers notice how the children are starting to value collaborating with one another and how they seek possibilities from other’s points of view within the experience. -Teacher Adriana
