In the East Wing, we have brought the clay out. I wanted to see how the children would use the clay they are familiar with if they had only their hands as their tools. Working in groups of six I observed how the children interacted with the clay as well as supported them with added, descriptive vocabulary. Last week we were reminding ourselves, through hands on familiarization, of what we knew about clay.
Cooper: A clay pancake can be made by pounding really hard with your fist.
Emmaline: Your fingers are really good carving tools. They are diggers.
Luke: Your shoes can make prints on the clay.
Eloise: Water on clay makes light brown.
After listening to several groups work with the clay, we will meet as a team and determine next steps with the children. -Teacher Cynthia
