Seeds of Change

Dearest urban farmers – and dreamers,

This is such an exciting time for the garden, and usually, that's not something you say when entering fall right?  But with all the community outreach we've done this summer, we're really reaping the benefits and should see some vivacious sprouts in the spring.  There's the Ocean View Farm plot that we've waited for for over two years, the plans with the city for a rain collection pilot program to begin on our Venice parkway strip, and the cultivation and expertise of local organic gardeners who will guide us in enriching the packed clay where we first attempted pumpkins and sunflowers this year.

How can you support these fertile grounds?  There's much to be done.  Ocean View Farms will need an overhaul before we decide to plant and a system for bringing the harvest to NSW.  Contact Ruth Handel (Jobim's mom, EW)  or me to meet us on a workday.  The rain collection pilot is in meetings now with the city of Mar Vista, but we need to connect with the neighbors facing Venice and include them in the pilot project in the hopes that this will be a block long concept.  Person to person will be best and as the parkway is at best, neglected, I don't see too manu obstacles. In the meantime, we continue with our own enrichment on our small plot on Venice.  If you want to get your hands dirty, or propogate some plants to add to the garden, volunteer to water on weekends or vacations, offer your expertise or help in any way, please let me know.
