Throughout the school, the children have been creating stories with many materials. Today, inspired by Pajama Day, we asked them what kind of bedtime story they might create.
A small group met and took time hearing each other’s bedtime routines and developed a plan to combine their experiences into one story. Incorporating the use of a new, external microphone, they recorded the story for all of NSW to hear. Later they created illustrations to add to their visual perspectives.
Teddy: Once upon a time there was a cottage and there was a baby and the baby had a stuffed animal.
Emmaline: There was a baby and the baby had a little stuffy and it singed “Rock-a- Bye, Baby” to it.
Olive: The dad came and sang “ABC”.
Laz: The cousins came and sang “Silent Night”. There are five of them and the oldest one sang.
Luke: The mom came in and said goodnight to the baby and she kissed him goodnight and she tucked him in and she gave him a bedtime story and she closed the door. And they lived happily ever after.
We are excited to see the level of familiarity the children have with technology and the comfort with which they interact with the programs. The use of this equipment and other materials has slowed the storytelling process down enough for children to strongly consider their drawing, plot lines, audience, and this has created a reflective storytelling practice we hope to extend. -Teacher Cindy
