At teacher in-service, before the first day of school, the staff met at the Venice Library to see what books would relate to the current children’s interests and welcome the incoming children for the new school year. We created a wish list on Amazon.

The Lavins asked for recommendations for books to read in celebration of Jake’s and Charlie’s 4th birthday. Today their mom, Leah, read two of those books at morning circle in the West Wing. We all gathered together and listened attentively to The Twins’ Blanket and Dad’s First Day.
Then the children sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to each birthday boy (with their permission).
Teacher Adriana: Are you donating these books to the library today?
Leah: Yes, we are.
Teacher Adriana: Every time we open these books, we will know they were donated in celebration of Jake’s and Charlie’s birthday. Their pictures will be in them.
Hayes: And when it’s my birthday, I can bring a book!
There are traditions at New School-West that have honored the school culture and families and children for years. It’s fun to see these traditions take hold with new faces. Some of the teacher recommended books will be for sale at the Book Fair on Saturday, September 16th. You can donate them directly to the library and your family will become part of our Delicious Library to be enjoyed by everyone. Feel free to check out books to take home. The system is in the kitchen. Don’t forget to let your teachers know when you want to read a book in celebration of your child’s birthday at circle time. We LOVE having you here. – Kristin
