In the Front Yard, our Garden Team of parents have been working on designing a vertical garden.
Paki (Olive, EW) and Kelly (Eliotte, EW) working on the pavers and vertical garden.
The children were part of this process and teacher Katherine has been meeting with the children and parents to continue developing the idea. After the parents created the foundation of our vertical garden over the weekend, our children immediately responded to this new installment.
Aiden: This is amazing. It’s beautiful in here.
Teacher Katherine: It is amazing and now we have to figure out different ways to continue making the garden stay beautiful.
Eliotte: We can plant vegetables.
Roen: I can support you, too.
Kai: I can add dirt.
Rio: I’m going to plant cilantro and jalapeños. It’s my dad’s favorite because he likes spicy.
Reflecting back on these experiences, we all can see the importance of the environment. The children not only see how the parents and teachers collaborate to design environments that foster collaboration but they also are learning about the importance of caring. The garden supports the children’s curiosity, gives them the opportunity to exchange observations, and to create hands-on experiences.
