“I think the red is overtaking the yellow.” -Luscia

With an intention of reconnecting our easel work to the observations of nature in the Front Yard, I sat back and watched to see what the children remembered about mixing colors with palette knives on palette paper to match the color of their photos of nature.

Clemmy: I will need red and yellow.

Teacher Katherine: How much red and yellow do you need to create this color?

Luscia: I think the red is taking over the yellow.

Katherine: Would you like to start over and revise the pumps?

Luscia: Yes, I think we need more yellow and less red.

The children then wrote down their recipes and named them.

Luscia shared the experience with the whole group in the Front Yard at Reflection Meeting.

Luscia and many others worked through some big feelings this morning on this first day back. She was able to connect with Clem and share an experience in a small group which helped her find joy in her day and share that with a larger Reflection group. We noticed that the children all chose a marigold as inspiration for their color and came away with different shades of orange. As we move forward in this process, we will reflect on how influential our own perspectives can be and by staying open to the input from others, also see how those perspectives can change. – Teachers Katherine & Adriana
