UCLA study

In the East Wing file boxes, you’ll find a consent form from Robyn Orfitelli, a graduate student from UCLA studying language acquisition for her dissertation. If you’re open to your child working with her for a 10 to 15 minute period, fill out the consent form and drop it in the UCLA file folder in the office by Tuesday, 1/18/11.

Robyn explains her work:

My dissertation looks at how children (ages 4-7) interpret complex sentences such as “John seems to Mary to be wearing a hat”. The study I hope to conduct at The New School West consists of a game with a story book and puppet. I tell a story, and then the puppet says something about it. The child gets to be the puppet’s teacher, and tell him if what he said matched the story or not. There aren’t any right or wrong answers, I just want to see how they interpret what the puppet said
