With Valentine’s day approaching teachers project for a natural opportunity to introduce card making and giving cards. At big circle, Teacher Cynthia introduced a variety of cards: some made by children, birthday cards, thinking of you cards, get well cards, blank cards. The children remembered it was Oliver’s birthday and they expressed an interest in making him birthday cards. With their friend in mind, they wanted to personalize the card and now wondered: What does Oliver like?
Teacher Flora: Oliver, friends want to know what you like so they can make you a birthday card.
Oliver: I like race cars. I like balls, like on a birthday cake.
Payton: Bolt? Like the movie?
Oliver: No balls! Like on a birthday cake.
Teacher Paola: Do you mean balls like circles or the kind you bounce?
Oliver: Yes! The little circles on my birthday cake. I like those
Leo: There is a race car and a helicopter. And lines and circles. Oliver likes circles. There’s five circles. One. Two. Three. Four. Five.
Paola: Do you want a message on your card?
Leo: Yes.
Paola: What should it say?
Leo: To Mommy…(he pauses and thinks)
Paola: Wait a minute, I thought this was for Oliver.
Leo: Oh ya. I want it to say: I love you, Oliver.
