Have you been to the New School-West Library lately? There have been some small changes.
Your child can check books out from the school
Children can check out one book at a time from NSW. There is a white notebook that has folders for each flower group. Together you and your child can write down the title of the book and date of checkout on their sign out sheet. (It’s a perfect opportunity to practice writing.) When returning the book, drop it off in the white box labeled “ Book Return” and then go back to the notebook to write in the date you returned the book. Once the book has been returned, your child can check out another. One book at a time please.
What happens if the book gets ripped or torn?
We have “The Book Doctor.” There is a white box next to the “Book Return” box that is for books that need repair. The book is placed there, and then a teacher or a parent will try to repair the book.
We have been talking to the children about taking care of the New School- West books. They do get so loved!
What are Birthday Books?
Birthday books are a fabulous way to honor your child’s special day. Your child can bring in a book to donate to the school. A picture of your child is put into the book with a label saying who the book is in honor of. (A blank label is in the process of being made, and will be coming soon). The book is shared at circle time either by a parent or a teacher. The books then are placed in a Birthday Book basket in the classroom and then go into the library.
What kind of books should my child donate?
We have a list in the library of books we are wishing to have in our library. If your child has a favorite book, and we don’t have it, that is also a great idea.
We have been working really hard with the children on using our library. The books have lettered sticker labels on them that correspond to shelves. It is a great opportunity for children to get familiar with the alphabet. We do also have audio books that are not for checkout. They have a label on it that says “Book on CD”.
