Today Libby and Ewan (EW) and Jacklyn, Aaron and Ryan (WW) met me at the garden plot in Ocean View Farms. We planted some sweet yellow bell peppers from seeds we saved last January, and some baby peppers that will turn from yellow through orange to red and are good fried or fresh in a salad.
The basil is filling out, the tomato looks happy and the celery was removed after bolting. We weeded the last of the spring weeds and looked closely at our budding berries. Will they be raspberries or blackberries? We'll keep watching…
Our carrot is ready to pick. Yes, carrot, singular. We planted a bunch of carrot seeds in the late winter and watched them disappear as they sprouted – bunnies love carrot tops. This one survived and we think its a giant one. We'll pick it on Monday so we can share it with the freinds for snack.
Next week:
Pick the carrot, and the last of the red lettuce.
Mulch the berries.
Plant out the sprouted corn and melon seeds.
Weed the walkway.
Water.
Meet us at the garden from 1:00 to 2:00 on Mondays and Fridays – email Kris; Kris@newschoolwest.com, if you can come.
