Wow, it feels like this week just flew by! The Cilantros have grown so much and we are seeing quite a growth in their observational skills. By slowing down and looking more closely, they have discovered the unseen details and are recognizing the interconnectedness in the things around them. In the classroom, they see the mutualistic world of the tank and are looking closely at the plants, turtle, fish, water, and rock formations. How do all these parts work together to support life within this world? After returning from a sand area appointment, the lively sounds from the East Wing Aloe Vera classroom were absent. Once we got word that they had walked to the post office, we seized the opportunity to visit Cody in his new home. The children wholeheartedly greeted Cody and left with conversations wondering how Cody and Squirt can reconnect.

While investigating the ocean they have narrowed in on the relationship between the water and sky. There have been many theories about the colors, depth, and tides of the water. The sky has them wondering about its color, the time of day and the connection to the sun and moon.

The colored water experience with vials and droppers intentionally resurfaced to nurture conversations around their theories. This week the children have noticed a relationship between the ocean and sky. One thought is that: The sun goes down and brings everything down, down. The water gets darker and deeper, and the sea creatures can move all around. The moon shimmers and then the sun rises. The children continue to hypothesize and all the images from your beach trips have brought out wonderful discussions. If you happen to find yourself at the beach, we would love images of the sky and water.
The beauty around us on our walk this week inspired relationships and connections with the children’s emerging recognition of the alphabet.

They collected a huge variety of sticks to bring back and invite everyone to spell out all their names. In addition to the group’s budding interest in the alphabet and word formations, we’re also seeing a spark in their desire to know more about math concepts. (scroll to page 149 & 150 for your age group markers). Through music, finger plays, building, and the use of many materials, the group is creating patterns, sequencing, counting and working on number recognition.

Thanks to Jack’s family for the beautiful flowers this week. They truly brighten our West Wing spaces and provide children with multiple opportunities for exploration and investigation. Here’s the link to our SignUpGenius for classroom flowers:

Reminders:
- Please remember to send your child in school friendly clothing. We want them to enjoy all of our experiences without concern that their clothes will be damaged.
- The days are warming up and we will be applying sunscreen during extended outdoor play. Let us know if your child has any skin sensitivities.
