Cilantro Peek at the Week!

Cilantro Parent’s Day, Friday afternoon, June 11th!

We are so excited to invite you to our annual Parent’s Days! We will have the same spirit as in years past, celebrating your children’s work and your beautiful connections to your children and the NSW community. We will welcome parents, four families at a time, to visit the Cilantro classroom with specially designated tour guides — your children! We are unable to welcome siblings or other family members at this time due to ongoing restrictions. You should plan for your children to leave school with you after your visit. Thank you for signing up! Friday, June 11 – CILANTROS

Friday, June 11th, 7:30 to 9pm — NSW’s VIRTUAL LIVE AUCTION!!

We had a blast last year with our first-ever virtual live auction and are looking forward to this year. It will be a fun opportunity to connect with the community and to purchase beautiful collaborative pieces of artwork created by your children. In the years past, we have been so fortunate to fundraise for teacher development and environment renovations with the proceeds. This year 100% of the raised money will go to the teachers! We are beyond grateful for this generous gift.

The skyscape was the focus of our ocean canvas this week. After investigating with multiple mediums and discussing the sky, we learned that the children were seeking a means for colors to fade into each other to portray a sunset. The children were introduced to spray bottles filled with paint of the colors that they see at this time of day. The bottles offered a light mist to represent the lighter airiness of the sky and created the faded effect they were after.

This week’s paper pulp has taken a new shape. Using a large metal bowl upside down as a mold, the children chose a collection of pink and blue paper pulp and applied it around the outside. The warm sun will help dry the bowls. During this process, the colors will change and the paper will acquire its new form.

Last week, the children found so much joy in molds made of frozen happiness. This week, the frozen shapes stuck together as the ice set. With the warm support of a friend, the ice began to melt, separating the smaller ice shapes from the ice block, and inviting more friends to enjoy the refreshing play.
