Cilantro Peek at the Week

As we close out the year, we think of next year’s possibilities. We begin to consider everyone’s experience and interests and how the new spaces in the East Wing can support. We’re envisioning a gorgeous future together. We’re seeing new relationships on the horizon and solidifying good, old relationships too!

For the last couple of weeks, the teachers have facilitated conversations and experiences to see ourselves as a new group together. Knowing that the Aloe Vera group would be going on a walk, the teachers arranged a mini visit to their classroom as a way to prepare for the transition into the East Wing.  The children were so excited to venture into this new environment and were especially excited to see our old friend Cody. Cody appeared to be curious about us too as he swam right up to the glass as if to be saying, “Hello there, Cilantros.”  While at the plexiglass, which divides the Aloe group and the Basil group, the children noticed that the Basil classroom was empty and asked if they could visit there too. It seemed like the perfect scenario to get a look at the rest of the East Wing and we headed over. Again the children were so excited to enter a space they had only seen from the doorway. Later in the morning the group reflected on some of their favorite things in the East Wing. Here are just a few things they would like to visit again: the alone space, the library, the counting beads, the loft, the babies, the ponies, the cash register, and believe it or not, the jalapeños in the House Area! We know that the classroom will be enriched in many ways when we move in, but it’s a lot of fun becoming familiar with the space during this transitional time.

Our Beach Party in the Sand Area was a splash! It was a fun day in the sun with water play. The teachers surprised the children with a couple of pools filled with refreshing water and converted the structure into a super fast water slide! After a water-filled morning, a small group prepared delicious strawberry lemonade with our hand held juicers. Strawberries harvested from our Community Garden were squished and mixed in with the fresh squeezed lemon juice, making a tasty beverage to top off our hotdog lunch bash. It was a refreshing blend we could share with all the groups in the school. Those eight strawberries went a long way! 😉

Thank you, Emme’s family, for the beautiful flowers this week! They truly brighten our West Wing spaces and provide children with multiple opportunities for exploration and investigation. Here’s the link to our SignUpGenius for classroom flowers:
