What a sweet few first days. There were joyous kisses and hugs hello with old friends and warm welcomes to new friends. The teachers based their classroom intentions on what they’ve learned about the children so far. These can be viewed in each classroom on the wall by the cubbies and will evolve through continued observation and analysis of the children’s work over time.
It was determined by the teachers that initial experiences would include introducing the care and use of the school’s spaces. The studio teachers discussed offering paper, paint and clay as initial material investigations. The West Wing will approach these materials in an exploratory fashion (dress to get dirty) and the East Wing will increase their understanding of these materials as they relate to developed interests.

We will document the developing relationships through written notes, photography and video. Connecting through materials offers challenges that provoke conversation and negotiation. Which, in turn, reveal skills and interests. We have scheduled a parent presentation to share our observations and curriculum development for the second week of September from 3:00-4:30 Tuesday the 13th. As always, we love your feedback and participation. Please leave any comments here or talk directly with the teachers and Kris.
