In the last two visits to the garden, the children have been caring for and cleaning the raised beds: weeding, pulling mushrooms, sweeping. After the storm, the children found more mushrooms and new weeds.
When they went to pull them out, they discovered new bugs.
“Let’s put the Roly Polies back in the garden!” -Xavier
After returning all these pill bugs to the garden, they noticed the large, green and black tool sticking out of the raised bed.

'the green thing' is pictured here as a black oval in the foreground.
Payton: That watches the plants from robbers so no one can take them like Ninjas.
Xavier: It watches the plants from robbers?
Dashiell: The green thing is to protect the Roly Polies.
We will continue to visit the garden on Mondays and care for the plants and bugs (the pill bugs aerate the soil, assisting plants in strong growth) and investigate the ‘green thing’ with a note to Dan Lerner (Charlie’s dad, WW) who heads the NSW parent garden crew.
