Cooking at NSW

What’s Cooking at NSW?
We are hoping to have a more consistent and ongoing exploration of food and cooking take place on mornings  & afternoons at NSW. Would you like to help?
We would love to have parent volunteers come in and share some of their culinary talents with the children. So far this year parents have helped the children make pizza, fresh pasta, fruit kabobs, potato pancakes, granola & more. Next up: TABOULEH with Byron Trent (Tati’s mom, EW). Let us know if you would like to participate. It’s fun!
Even if cooking isn’t your thing, you can still help. Look for the sign-up sheets in the entry hall for the ingredients needed each week.
With that said, you may have been wondering about the Caprese Salad ingredients sign-up sheet that has been hanging in the entry for the past several weeks. Well, it is for The Caprese Salad Provocation, of course!  (Bet you never thought you would hear those three words used together).
It is a snack time project the children have been working on with Ivana and Katherine. Tomatoes, mozzarella, basil; the Caprese Salad seemed like a simple, delicious and healthy starting point to initiate an exploration of some of the herbs and (coming soon!) vegetables from the garden.  The children have been exploring the tastes, smells and creative possibilities of a Caprese Salad. Their creations are served at snack time.  The plan is for the project to continue on those Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons when a parent is not available to prepare something of their own with the children.
Talk directly wtih Katherine or Ivana to volunteer to cook or email Kristen Messina ktmessina@mac.com (Luca’s mom WW). Can’t wait to get cooking!
