Hi Everyone!
Our tastebuds have been tickled lately! The children have made three trips to the Venice Farmers Market, two trips to Ocean View Farms, held their own NSW Farmers Market and been busy cooking with several parent volunteers.
The children joined me one afternoon in making homemade butter. It was pure magic to see cream turn into whipped cream, then butter and buttermilk with just a jar, some marbles and a little shaking. And everyone agreed it was delicious spread on that wonderful fresh bread! Can’t wait to do it again.
And this past week, Lynne Taylor, Violet’s nana (WW), came in and made fresh bread with the children as she involved them in weaving the tale of The Little Red Hen. You can see the little pots of dirt with seeds sprouting in the courtyard. What a magical morning!
We have enjoyed all the season’s bounty from the farmers market and our parents, teachers and friends who have brought in their own harvests from figs to apples to tomatoes to passion fruit. Can’t wait to see what October and November bring!
If you or a family member want to come in and cook with the children, let us know! There is a sign up sheet in the hallway. We also need volunteers for the Farmers Market trips. there is a sign up sheet for that as well. And if you have wonderful fruits, veggies or other foods you would like to share from your garden or kitchen, bring them in! -Kristen Messina (Luca EW)
