It’s Monday, February 11th, 2013 and I’m still basking in the delights of last week. The EW Open House was inspiring and we are grateful to those of you who were able to attend. The teachers and children work hard and it’s wonderful for them to share their accomplishments with you. Sweet kudos go to Kris who, once again, is our unsung hero. Kris works intimately with all the teachers to ask the hard questions, to make sure they have time out of the classroom to document their work, and to support the flow of the day. We all agree that without her, half of everything probably just wouldn’t get done. Thanks, Kris, for all you do for us!
Five more hearty parents came to the Parent Workday on Saturday to tackle some unfinished tasks around the school and spruce up the place. Doug (Emmet’s dad) worked and oversaw the installation of our new Venice gate and Zed (Sage’s dad) got out his electrical tools to help get us up and running safely. Steph (Tal’s dad), David (Charlie’s dad) and Jenn (Sasha’s mom) got paint on their hands while Jessica and Silvana powered out the organization of the side of the school and the closets.
All this while the hosts of the Secret Dinners shopped, chopped, shucked, and stirred getting ready for what proved to be amazing dinners. Jim and I party hopped and we found it hard to not just pull up a chair and settle in at each spot. Thanks to all of you who participated and special thanks to our hosts, the Stuno-Pervoses and the Trope-Kempers, the Ainslies and the Powells, and the Monns and the Hollys. Whew! Amazing! And, thanks again to Michael or organized the evening with much success.
Coffee with Roleen is tomorrow, Tuesday, at the Hubber-Bangs house at 242 Market St. in Venice. We’ll be there from 9:30 to 11:30 for some informal dialogue about anything you want to talk about. These mornings are always engaging and a great way to share parenting experiences. I never walk away without learning something!
Keep your eyes out for the Post Office this week. Homemade Valentine cards will be on sale for those special people in your life. And for those of you who don’t know, the children from last year designed the stamps.
Courtney Campbell will be here on Saturday from 10 to 1:45. Adults are $10 and children are free. Come and start your day with some fun music and entertainment.
Remember that we will be closed on Monday, February 18th for Presidents’ Day and for our Reggio teacher retreat at Temescal Canyon on February 28th and March 1st. The teachers from six of our local Reggio-influenced schools will once again (I think this is our fourth year together) be inspiring each other through materials, documentation, books, stories, and lessons from experts in a variety of different fields. We know it’s not easy to find alternative childcare and we appreciate your efforts to keep us energized.
So . . . it’s Monday. . . and there it is. Enjoy your week. xoxoxoRoleen
