Two great big boxes were donated to us by Gail Hallenberg (a speech pathologist who we refer to). Some children went on a walk to her house to bring them to school. A kind man saw them struggling and helped the rest of the way.
“It was heavy. We did a lot of tugging.” – Julian

We noticed that the children had an interest in smaller boxes and the front yard was a good place to start a community of ideas:
Lawson: “This could be a fairy boat.”
Mia: “It should stay here on the road and it should be the end of the road. We would have to leave this one (a flap) down on the bottom. We want to make this one a car.”
Alex: “Submarine.”
Austin: “A taxi!:
Cookie: “A train.”
Mason: “car”
Dex: “A spy house.”
Mia: “tent”
Sadie: “cave”
Lucy C.: “barn”
Every day the play is different in the true spirit of open ended materials. We’ll be watching these ideas to find a theme to their play in order to support and enrich it.
Mia: “Maybe tomorrow, it can be what you want.”
