Just in case this comes up tonight in conversation – Every month we practice a safety drill and today was the day. It starts with getting used to the very loud alarm bell in each classroom. After we get used to the sound during circle time, we begin to walk our evacuation plan; exit with the nearest teacher (each teacher knows exactly who they are working with at all times) out the nearest door and gather on the sidewalk on May Street. When there, it’s a listening game! Each child who has been SIGNED IN for the day, is called out and accounted for. Each teacher is assigned to bring: a designated First Aid kit, the SIGN IN BOOKS, and Yellow Emergency Cards so we can communicate with the parents and caregivers in a real emergency. Two other teachers visually ‘sweep’ the bathrooms, outdoor spaces and classrooms. Today was a huge success with a calm and swift walk out.
