The children are anticipating their coming year. To make this information tangeble, we made a large board to clarify who is going where next year. The children call this our ‘Board’ which has school names and photos underneath of individual children attending those schools.
Zoe B.: Why do we have the board?
James: So we know where other people are going and so we can know if we forget the name of our school.
One of the schools on the board is NSW and some of the children are returning next year.
Sy: Because they’re also going to invite the WW kids in.
Hazel: And we’re gonna teach them some of the things we do.
Max: My friends went to kindergarten and I welcomed West Wingers and told them stuff.
Persephone: I can tell Amalia and all the friends where my favorite books are.
We also have photo albums of local schools in a basket on the EW rug. These tools, the board and the photo albums, help ease these visual and hands on children with their next steps by opening conversations among them. Come take a look at the board so you can carry on the conversation at home. It’s by the East Wing cubbies where the children sign in.
