At last week’s East Wing parent meeting, we asked the parents to leave a
note for their child using symbols or drawings instead of words.

Symbols are the beginning of writing/ literacy. I worked with some
children this week. We looked at their notes and the child interpreted
what the symbols/drawings meant.
Ila- “It’s Ninja Bunny and I love you.” (Ila’s interprataton of the
above note from mom). Ila then in return wrote a note back to mom.
“Elijah is blue because he likes blue. I am pink. I made mama in a
purple wedding dress with long hair and this is papa. I also drew
Ninja Bunny girl and Ninja Bunny boy and a heart that says ‘ I love
you.’ ”
Blue- “The heart means I miss you and I love you. The other drawings
are my family, dad, mom, me and my cats.” (Blue’s interpetation from
the note from his mom and dad.
Blue wrote a note back to mom and dad that said, “I miss you. I want
daddy. I want to watch my movie.”
