Setting up spaces is part of the teacher’s work during the week and oftentimes, they involve the children to offer a sense of ownership and pride in their classroom. On Mondays, Flora meets with a group and they work on making dough together for the classrooms.
David: “It looks like pasta.”
Bryce: “I’m making a pancake.”
Leo: “I need a knife.”
David, beginning to connect to home through the material: “I’m making a turtle. I have a turtle at home.”
Bryce, continuing the connection: “My daddy used to do it like this. This is how my daddy cuts pancakes.”
Leo, extending the discussion through the material: “I’m making Yakisoba.”
