Pumpkins and Gourds

Now that we are in October, we are hoping to enrich our classroom environments for the fall season with some pumpkins and gourds. We would really love it if families could contribute! Please feel free to bring these items to your classroom teachers at drop-off or pick-up times.

The Dandelion Group

is saying thank you to the Basil Group for agreeing to switch outdoor space twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). The Dandelions enjoyed climbing, sliding, swinging in the hammock, crawling through the tunnel, running, and jumping on the trampoline in the front Wood Chip area. On our alternating days, we continued to build relationships with our spaces in the front yard. We worked together to rearrange the house area and large building block spaces. Inside the Dandelion classroom, the children were also discovering new possibilities in the indoor house area: serving tea, working on the keyboard in the “office,” and having many birthday parties with our flameless candles. At the mini studio table, we wondered, “How are we making connections with one another?” We explored this question through the use of paper copies of our West Wing headshots, as well as adhesives like glue sticks and connectors like awls and brads. Take a look at how long our chain of connections has already grown!

The Cilantro Group

has been having fun developing their large motor skills as they use our scooters, trampoline and our new bike in the Middle Courtyard.  Now the Sand Area has given us new challenges as we climb, try the monkey bars, push tractors through the sand, and pull heavy sand-filled wheelbarrows.  We are also enjoying the rich sensory experiences that the sand offers such as digging, sifting, and pouring and, of course, cooking up delicious meals to serve one another and the many toy animals and fairies who live in this space. Our current plan is to use the Sand Area on Wednesday and Friday mornings. Also highly discussed is Halloween. This group is wanting to build a haunted house. In addition to pumpkins and gourds, they would love to add black cats, cobwebs, spiders, skeletons, and ghosts. If you happen to have any child friendly items to contribute, let us know and we will be very happy to put them to a spooky use.
