Cooking Invitation
Food connects our personal families to the school community through the recognition of others traditions, celebrations and use of seasonal, regional ingredients.
In close circles, or when we are often together, we are given an opportunity to get to know each other more intimately and by learning about others, we learn more about ourselves. The possibility is magnificent and sublime because diversity is exactly the value that gives us limitless views of the world, environment, and interpersonal relations. Variety is the bridge that builds relationships and gives a feeling of interconnectedness within which we belong. In almost every culture, it is common for the kitchen table to symbolize that bridge-uniting over food on the table. This has the capacity to connect and deeply links each of us in family. With you at the table sits the family or friends, or even unexpected guests. The food has that power of connection. It is an act of socialization, it is the beginning of a conversation, it is the circle where we are given the possibility of engaging. In this circle of family tradition, food takes the throne because it is an integrator and is there through generations. The value of family recipes are that they are primarily composed of love, a lot of contact, delight, respect, patience. It offers a specific scent that carries memory, tells a story, is an irreplaceable treasure every family possesses. Family tradition actually reflects a clear portrait of the identity of those who gather. Food is the integrator of the entire family identity. Every family tradition is a spring of opportunity in a river of relationships, in a sea of diversity. She is the bridge of eclecticism.
Every family’s recipe is exactly what we want to encourage you to come and share with us. Email me at Ivana@newschoolwest.com and we will coordinate a date to cook together.
