In the East Wing forest, the children have acclimated to the new environment and the teachers plan to slow down the play and go deeper. With an intention to facilitate communication, Adriana and Flora have set up an appointment for the forest play that begins with creating a story.
Genevieve- “We are going to write a story.”
Chase- “Why?”
Genevieve- “Because first you do a story and then you draw your animal and then do face paint. You can draw on your face and take it off with water and soap.”
After several groups of children had created a story, they designed face art and chose colors based on their story characters. A small group took a walk to Robinsons Beautilities store in our neighborhood in search of specific face paint colors and brought their foundings back to share with the others.
Genevieve- Orange and black lion.
Tatiana- A yellow humming bird.
The children were able to ask Christian, the store employee, what orange would be best for them.
Tatiana- “We are looking for orange and yellow.”
Genevieve- “We also need black for the nose.”
Christian- “I suggest that you use water paint, because is easy to wash off your face.”
After having the colors they needed, the children stood in a line to pay for the paint.
We said “ Thank you” to Christian, and walked back to NSW.
The children painted their faces and Adriana read the story to them as they acted it out. The teachers will play back the video of the story to work on timing and clarification of intent with the children.
