As we near the end of the school year we recognize all the changes that are happening. As the East Wingers get ready to graduate and go to kindergarten, we in the West Wing take this opportunity to explore the school where the graduation will be taking place.
We have been walking over to Beethoven Elementary school and talking to the children about the areas, noticing the building and different parts that compose such a big school. The children and teachers have been going on these walks both in the morning and afternoon. We have snack there and take some time to explore the grassy area in front of the auditorium.
The children have been enjoying these walks tremendously and have been using them as practice for the real thing when we get to go with the East Wingers and see them practice.
The teachers have observed the children’s need to experience transitions physically. We anticipate that by going on these practice walks the children will know what to expect and will be able to process the changes that are occurring.
So don’t be surprised if you come and pick up your child and they are on a walk, we are keeping a list to ensure everyone gets a turn and there is a list on the white board of who is on the walk.
