Cilantro Peek of the week 4/16/21

This week, the children had an opportunity to reconnect with Cody during his dry hour for wound care. As Cindy brought Cody around in his temporary recovery bin, the children again inquired why do Cody and Squirt have a permanent separation if they were friends?

With Squirt and Snowball (the fish) being the sole vertebrates in the Cilantro classroom, the children have expressed concern for Snowball’s welfare. We are framing appointments for observing the turtle tank to listen to their ideas around Squirt and Snowball amongst the plants, rocks, and water in the tank.

With the stems falling from the tree in the Middle Courtyard, the children formed letters to spell out a friend’s name. Children also shaped their names in sculpey clay which guided and gave more confidence in writing their names.

In the Middle Courtyard, acrylics were introduced to offer a more expressive paint for the children’s ocean scene. The children tested palette knives in place of brushes as they spread the thick paints across the surface of a large canvas. To offer a variety of textures and effects, acrylic mediums were also introduced to add the depth, motion, and sparkle of the ocean and waves. The beach is a joyous place for us all and a large context to bring into school. We will be making concept maps to hone in on the children’s interest and rich learning contexts. Thank you, families, for sending us pictures of the children’s beach experiences! The images have been great conversation starters.

Flowers brighten our West Wing spaces and provide children with multiple opportunities for exploration and investigation. Here’s the link to our SignUpGenius for classroom flowers:
