Besides making new friends, the East Wingers are busy getting acquainted with a variety of updated materials within their new classroom environments which include both inside and outside spaces.
It’s during these first few days that we take special interest in just observing how the children are using the spaces and already the teachers have noticed a deep interest in dramatic play that includes books, storytelling, familiar role playing, and fantasy play.

With players returning to the EW from last year, there are familiar scenarios from the firefighters movie and the incoming EW children are adding new story lines and considerations for play. The theater curtain has influenced a lot of the work.
Connections are being made while children test new tools and share techniques. The wire investigation, which we thought would inspire additions to the structures, has become a place to deconstruct and so we’ve added more cutting tools.
Peers are supporting each other in overcoming challenges to represent their ideas.
Inside the building area, the children continue collaborating over master plans and in the outside spaces they are expanding on their ideas with a larger scale.
With materials, the group is exploring the possibilities of color while creating their own palette.
The stories in each are deep and rich and we will be sharing the details soon. – Cindy and Kristin
