“…foxes don’t roar.” -Dashiell

The EW teachers, following up on the goal of discovering forms of communication, have posed a question to the “Forest” group: How do animals communicate with other species?

In order to slow down the play in the Forest, the children must first agree on a story and design their ‘costume’ by drawing how they will paint their faces. Dashiell, Sergio, Tatiana and Genevieve met with teacher Adriana to create a plan.

“I want to be a fox”, Dashielle says.

“I want to be a bear”, says Sergio.

“I want to be a humming bird”, offers Tatiana.

“I want to be a lion” says Genevieve

Genevieve and Tatiana agree that the hummingbird and lion are friends. Sergio and Dashielle play along: “The fox and the bear are friends.”

Adriana: “How will they communicate?”

Sergio: “We are not going to talk. We are going to roar!”

Dashiell:  “But I don’t roar because foxes don’t roar.”

Tatiana and Sergio: “Then we can do like this…” They move their bodies to express their ideas.

With body language established as the main form of communication, Adriana will ask the group while they play, what the others are indicating and if this was percieved correctly.

Today, the group walked to the store to purchase the colors needed to make their faces up.
