Happy Birthday Books!!

One of the delightful traditions of NSW is how we approach birthdays. Instead of pizza or cupcakes at school a child gets the experience of having a parent join a circle time to read a book of the child’s choice, usually a favorite from home! Mom or Dad perched in a chair sharing a family favorite with their friends- pretty simple and very special to the birthday boy or girl.
If possible a copy of that book is donated to the school’s library. In addition to growing our library with a curated selection from our families the children get to come across “their” book from time to time so it serves as another one of those treasured points of contact with home.

When your child’s birthday comes let your teacher know and arrange for your time at circle. If you want to donate a copy of their chosen book there are special stickers with their picture in the office for you to affix to the inside cover. They love to see themselves in their book! For parents it can be a nice point of intersection with your child’s friends when you come across that child’s book in a basket.
