“Happy to move to the East Wing.” -Zoe

At Reflection Meetings, we are talking with the West Wing children after our visits to the East Wing. We’re wondering about the feelings that come up as we visit and play in this new area.

Lily: Happy because it’s different. And a little bit scared.
Estelle: A little scared.
Arrow: Excited to move to this classroom.
Zoe: Happy to move to the East Wing.
Teacher Susan: I’m having a lot of feelings, excited but nervous.
Emilio: Don’t worry, Susan, we can help you.
Clemmy: Happy to move to the East Wing.
Naomi: I’m sad that Theo is going to another school. Happy because Lily will be here.
Jacob A.: Confused because everything is changing.  I just love the West Wing.  I don’t want to leave.
Caitlin: A little bit worried because I didn’t want to move. I want to stay in the West Wing.  But a little bit excited too.
Chase: A little nervous because about the change in the materials.
Coco: I feel happy that I’m going to the East Wing.
Mason: I feel happy because I like the East Wing.
Teacher Jessica: Nervous because the East Wing is new to me too.
Agnes:  I like the East Wing because I like the Puff the Magic Dragon book.
Teacher Adriana: I’m excited because it’s going to be amazing.
Avey: I’m feeling a little bit shy but the rest is brave.

We talked about the things that are going to be the same like some of the materials, pens/pencils, clay, wire, building materials, house area toys, puzzles, the outside spaces, and the teachers.  We made a list of the things we liked using in the East Wing, like face paints, rocking chair, balls and ramps, trains, costumes, and a list of the things the children wanted to bring from the West Wing, like their journals, favorite songs, baby dolls, and favorite books.  We agree that talking together about all the changes feels very supportive.
