During a Day-In-The-Life tour I encountered a lengthy and fascinating exchange between Cynthia and Yoshimi. I switched my camera to video, hoping to record the subtleties of their conversation, and see how it might or might not begin to resolve. I was so impressed with both of them, their trust and patience with each other, with their commitment to personal creative expression. I also related very strongly to the media obstacle. Those princesses are tyrants! At the initial Parent Orientation in August, I remember Roleen encouraging us to avoid lunchboxes with media images if possible, because “really they’re kind of a drag.” We laughed but it’s true! This video vividly illustrates her point. That said, however, these teachers are amazing and will not give up. With their help, our kids can break free and let it go. Yoshimi did — she’s amazing, too! — Jona (Ren, EW)
When Kris first saw the video she had this response, for which she deserves credit, and upon which it would be tough to improve: It demonstrates “encouraging children to look beyond media and into their own souls and the persistence of teachers who value the development of the whole child, seeking quality experiences over convenient ones.” Yes!
