It’s Monday, February 4, 2013 and it’s beautiful outside which has me energized and focused. The sun always does that to me. And the shadows!! Amazing!!! There’s a lot on our plates but here’s a sneak peek of the feast. . .

Courtney Campbell’s coming to sing (February 16th)
First, a great big hug to the few but mighty parents who joined forces with Amy, Jessica, Silvana, Flora, and Adriana at our Parents’ Workday on January 26th. You cleaned, shopped, organized, patched, hammered, drew out plans for future projects, and got your hands dirty. A lot got done in spite of the rain and we are deeply grateful. For those of you who couldn’t make it and want to find a task, check the list on the right of the blog and see if anything looks doable for you.
Some of you have been asking about what’s happening on Tuesday afternoons. Ellen Khokha (former Executive Director of The Growing Place) and I are offering a four-part seminar on Documentation for local directors, teachers, and college professors. It’s been a learning experience for me as well as those attending. Ellen is the queen of documentation and has supported us here at NSW and we (and hopefully, you) have benefited from her experience. Last week we all stood around the kitchen/staff table (22 of us!) while the art teacher from Wildwood laid out the beginnings to a documentation piece from her school and it was amazing. For those of you who were here, that kitchen/staff lounge is the result of our Silent Auction fundraiser from two years ago. It brings me great pleasure when I see our vision come to fruition and being used just as we had hoped. Speaking of Fundraisers. . .
Our Fundraising Committee is on a roll and already making things happen. This Saturday six families/three homes are hosting our now traditional Secret Dinners Night. It’s one of our favorite events. . . Jim’s and mine, that is! Party hoppers that we are! Thanks to all of you who are participating. . . cooking and eating! It is truly a delicious night and quite a treat. Our Silent Auction on April 27th is getting some momentum as well. Be sure to save the date and support the committee’s efforts to seek out some much-sought-after donation items. Our funds this year will go directly toward our Back Patio Studio design. Keep your eyes out for our dream ideas.
Thursday, February 7th, is the East Wing’s Open House. It’s from 6 to 7:30. Sign up to bring a nibble, hear a brief reflection from the teachers about what’s going on in the classroom and tour their amazing work. If you haven’t seen the structure in the building space, you’re in for a treat! And read the walls. The teachers and children are working hard.
As most of you know (and remember), it’s Registration time for the new school year. I’ve earmarked all your personal requests for friends and family and made the adjustments per your schedule requests. It’s the beginning of the puzzle and with 19 siblings coming in (yes. . you heard me! 13 are girls BTW) it’s not a flexible year and it’s been really difficult for me. I so love all our families who apply and certainly they are the wings that carry us with the want to be here. That said, I’m hoping to send out the letters sooner than planned and, hopefully, by the end of this week. Whew!
Ending on a good note. . . my friend, Courtney Campbell has moved back to town and she’s agreed to do a concert for us on February 16th from 10 to 10:45. She’s great and I think you’ll enjoy starting your Saturday with a little sing a long fun. There’s a flier on the door.
So. . . It’s Monday. . .and there it is! Enjoy your week! xoxoxoRoleen
