It’s Monday, October 12th, 2009

Good day, Friends.
It’s Monday, October 12, 2009,
and it’s Jessica’s birthday!  Happy
birthday, Jess.  We love you.

It finally feels like Fall and we’ve got some shift in the
weather.  With that, we’re kicking
the heaters on and pulling out our sweaters as we head into the week preparing
for rain. We’re not going to let that put a damper on our plans for our West
Wing Back to School Night
tomorrow night,
however, so if you were questioning whether we’re still on. . . we are!  See you at 6:30 ready to play! And
thanks to those of you who pulled a post up to bring some nibbles.

Rain may put a hold on the Individual Photo Days planned for this week, however, but Duane will make
it work as we need.  He is
scheduled to be here on Wednesday, the 14th, and Thursday, the 15th,  but if it’s raining, he’s already
marked his calendar to be at NSW next Tuesday, the 20th, and
Wednesday, the 21st, just in case.

Parent-teacher conferences are well on their way and it’s been great for the teachers to sit and
meet you without distraction even if it’s just for a half hour.
East Wingers it’s your turn so check out the sign up sheets and
fill in a time.  Don’t forget to
let us know if we need to make other times available.

This weekend I attended the Training the Trainer
Conference
at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel
downtown.  Unfortunately, Kris was
nursing a bad cold (I ordered her to stay in bed!) and so she missed it but I
walked away with some pretty great information worth sharing. I’ll try to
condense some of the info for all of you and will keep you posted on that.  In the meantime, check out the
Library
space in the Back Patio at NSW.   The documentation of the area is
meant to be an interactive dialogue with you and I’m going to post some of the
information I received at the workshop on Literacy on the boards.

Thank you, Lenny and Elaine, for hosting Martinis with Roleen last Friday night.  There were 11 of us who gathered to talk kids while sipping
and nibbling and it was a sweet night.
I always walk away feeling gratified that parents are making connections
and forming relationships with each other.  Parenting is not easy and it feels good to know there is a
support group that can balance all the feelings that go along with walking this
path together.  Our next
Coffee
with Roleen
or “Joe with Ro” (thanks,
Robinne, for that great recap you wrote for the blog), will be at Sari and
Jacob’s house on October 26th.
Sign ups are on the door.

Halloween’s coming
and I’ve posted some beginning information about what to expect as we approach
a holiday that creates quite a stir all around us. . . some not so fun for
children.  Our focus will remain
one of embracing the seasonal change through observation and we invite you to
slow down with us and look.  Notice
the colors all around us, the changes in the air and in the trees, and what’s
on the ground.  It’s a whole new
way of seeing and discovering and it’s all pretty amazing.  We just need to stop and look through
the eyes of the children.

Remember a week from Friday, October 23rd, we
will be closing at 12:30
.  Paola, Kris, Silvana, Jessica, Cynthia,
and Yoli will be attending an all day workshop on “Understanding Behaviors from
the Outside In” with Linda Brault at The Growing Place at Marine Park.  I attended Linda’s workshop this past
weekend and she is really inspirational so I’m excited to send some of the
teachers who will be bringing the information back to those of us remaining at
school.  It’s all good.

So “It’s Monday” and there it is.  Enjoy your week and stay warm and well.  Roleen
