Good morning, Friends, and welcome to my first It’s Monday blog for the new school year. Whew! My goal is to greet you on Mondays with upcoming news. Now that everyone’s getting settled, I am aiming to get back to my schedule and work from home on Mondays and Fridays and keep my full days at school to Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. With that, please note that I am always e-mail accessible but for any pressing issues and you really need me, my cell phone is on and Kris and the teachers know how to reach me. Here’s what we’ve got going this week:
Wednesday, August 21st, is our Parent Partners Meeting. It’s from 6:30 to 8:45 and it’s a good first night to kick off the school year and a time for all of us to come together to make everything happen in collaboration and partnership. There’s a sign up sheet on the door if you want to bring some nibbles. Our goal for all of us is to be blog connected so we’re asking Jonathan to come to link your phones to our calendar, if you so choose, and if you haven’t done so already. That way you can get notices when things are happening.
I’ve completed the year’s Calendar and Kris will put the download version in the Important Docs portion of the blog soon. Please note that the winter and spring breaks have been changed from our original short version that was sent out in March. We will be adding things as the year flows.
Thursday, August 22nd, Xylia’s family (EW) will host our first Coffee with Roleen from 9:30 to 11. There is a sign up sheet on the door so if you can come, great. It’s a $10 donation and it’s just a time for us (adults only) to gather to talk together about children and everything that goes on with parenting stages. Perhaps the best thing that happens during these mornings is the connection with each other that has us realizing we’re not alone in the struggles. A good feeling. We’d like someone to take notes so we can post them on the blog for those who cannot attend (type in Coffee with Roleen in the “search” portion of the blog for past recaps) If you’re up for being note taker, let me know.
Saturday, August 25th, is our Whole School Picnic at Glen Alla Park from 11 to 1. Bring your own picnic food and supplies (blankets, coolers, games. . ) and something to share for the community table and be ready to play and have fun with some pretty great people. We’ll have name tags (so relax!) and our buddy families will be “working the room” so it should be fun.
Thanks again to Jodi (Taj, EW) for hosting our Coffee and Comfort morning during our first days last week. Sounds like it was a good gathering with lots of support. The teachers are busy and have lots of good things to say about the children who are really working hard at their school transition. It’s never easy, these first steps, but together we can guide the way as we get to know each other. There are no absolutes. . . except knowing that nothing is perfect. If we understand that, we’ll keep problem solving together as we hold hands along the journey. . . and it promises to be a good one!
And there it is. . . “It’s Monday”, August 19th, 2013. Enjoy your week. Roleen
