February 28th and March 1st: School is closed for the Reggio Teacher Retreat. This is a nurturing tradition that grew from the WLA Collaborative that was formed in 2003 when Ellen Khokha (who then was the Executive Director at The Growing Place) wrote an Annenberg Grant for the local Reggio-inspired schools to study together. The three-year grant supported funds that were raised from fundraising within each school with the idea that if teachers reached out to each other across schools to work collaboratively with each other, rather than in isolation, were would build a stronger community of learners together. We even traveled to Reggio Emilia for a week’s study of the preschools and in 2007, we opened our schools for the North American Reggio Emilia Alliance (NAREA) conference and NSW was honored to host Carlina Rinaldi herself. This all has happened, and continues to happen, with our parents’ ongoing support. We know it’s not easy to find alternate child care and we soooooo appreciate you. We promise to share what we’ve learned with you and with the children so stay posted.
The West Wing will host their Open House for Parents on Monday, March 4th from 6:00 to 7:30.
Join us for teacher presentations and find out what the children are doing all day! We will briefly overview the work together through the children’s lens of storytelling! Afterwards, we will share anecdotes and deeper insights when we meet with you for dialogue in the classroom areas. Sign up on the door to bring nibbles and drinks – no childcare available.

March 5th: EW Parent-Teacher Conferences begin: Check out the sign up sheets and see what works for your schedules. Remember to let us know if the designated times are a conflict and we will make time to see what works best for your schedules and ours. WW Parent-Teacher Conferences will follow but never hesitate if you wish to set up a time to talk with the teachers, Kris, or myself and any time.
March 14th: I will need to reschedule the Coffee with Roleen because Jim and I have been invited to go to Kauai for a week and I’m going to do it! Stay posted for the new date.
