Yoli gathered the children in the front yard to evaluate the worm’s habitat in the woodchips. To approach this from an empathic viewpoint, Yoli walked the children through a breathing exercise while they meditated on the word, “kindness”.
Afterwards, they sifted through the worm bin.
Lucy C.: Here’s an egg!
Declan: I have a book on worms at home.
Yoli: Oh, do you think you can share that book with us?
Declan: Yes. It says what they eat in it.
Lucy T.: This sign is for worms only, but there are eggs in here.
Declan: I can draw an egg on the sign.
The worms will re-locate to deeper earth, around the front yard tree. It was decided that the eggs would stay in the cage so they could watch them hatch.
Lucy T.: It takes a long time to grow.
