“Look at the color!” -Lily

Using the dehydrator donated by Luke’s grandmother, Sara, we experienced the food in new ways as it changed color, texture and flavor.

Luke: It turns it into dry foods.

Lily: The oranges get dry.

Laz: They got chewy!

Jai: I don’t like the banana. I don’t like the crunchy part.

Lily: (holding the orange up to the skylight) Look at the color!

Austen: The lemon looks like sunsets.

Since the dehydrator was a tool new to all of us, we sometimes had food that came through the process and was inedible.  Not wanting the food to go to waste and using their observations as inspiration, the teachers introduced needle and thread to challenge fine motor skills and create sweet smelling sun catchers.    -Teacher Amy
