Mints online!

Distance learning on Zoom challenges us to connect in other ways. With a lot of pre-planning on how to create a group from a small sample of our large school, we settled on Zoom games, show and tell, recognizing our names and playing with Zoom tools. The books we read are meant to embrace different perspectives and the children online – they are all coming from a different place. Bei-Hai, Dylan, Christoph and Elliot make up our Mint Group run by Teacher Jen. Here is the Monday morning circle they had that promises a fun learning experience!

Bei-Hai, Dylan, Christoph and Elliot Zoomed together for a sweet morning.

Teacher Jen reached out on Monday to set up the rest of the week:

Yay, we did it! Happy First Day Mint Group!
Parents, thank you so much for joining the appointments today and for helping your child on Zoom. I know it can be a bit tricky. It was really special to get to see all of your children’s faces and hear their voices and stories. Like with anything new, it always takes a moment to “warm-up” and get acquainted.
Tomorrow’s Morning Circle will feature MINTY the Turtle. He will be my handy dandy persona doll that will act as another child. Minty can sometimes feel timid at first and takes a moment to come out of his shell. He will voice the thoughts that some children might feel and be supported by the other children. Persona dolls have a special way with children and helps them come out of THEIR shells. =)
If you have any feedback for me or would like to share what really speaks to your child, please let me know.
Notes/Requests: -If you would like to shoot me a text of any pictures you take during the Zoom appointments (of the children’s work or their process) please feel free to at 818.915.3619. Thank you, this will be most helpful starting next week (during the Focus Zoom Appointments 11-11:30) for documentation purposes.
Highlights for Tomorrow’s Appointments:-Morning Circle – Introducing Minty the Turtle
-Focus Zoom: Name Game, please have writing tools and paper available. Also please UNMIRROR your child’s screen so when they show us a letter, we can read it correctly.
-Afternoon Zoom: Felted Faces, if your child has felt, scissors, an “emotion legend”, drawing tools, and paper (or their notebooks) handy that will be great.
Okay everyone, see you tomorrow!-Jen
