This morning, some of the children went on a sound exploration walk in the neighborhood. Jessica and Cindy documented several conversations about sound with Micah, Nico, Leah, Sadie, Hanami, Jackson, Ewan and Isabelle.
Leah hears a car.
Leah: "A car!"
Cindy: "What part of the car do you hear?"
Leah: "The 'vroom vroom'!"
When they came to the stormdrains, they tested reverberations with their voices.
Micah: "If you make a sound and be quiet, you hear an echo. You talk and the sound repeats."
Hanami: "If you make a sound, it's the same word happening."
The manhole covers offered a different sound.
The children tested the sound from the manhole cover made from jumping against the sound made from jumping on the circular 'no littering' sign painted next to it.
The teachers plan to make several trips in the neighborhood to return to the stormdrains and have recorded the children's percussions.
