“Thank you!” -Georgios

Georgios began with us in January and has been welcomed by the children and teachers immediately into the community. As we observe the process of his integration, we are warmed by the knowledge that New School-West is a welcoming group and that it shows in every nook, cranny and interaction. Welcome to the Sarantis family!

Out in the sand area, Georgios noticed the costume basket and was immediately drawn to the butterfly costume. It can be a bit of a tricky costume, one that takes some figuring out to put it on, especially your first time. Georgios looked at the teachers, then quickly looked away. He seemed determined to figure it out himself. He quietly struggled a bit trying to put it on, then looked around again. A lot of the children were engaged in their own running game. He seemed like he was deciding if or who to ask for help, then whispered to himself, “How do you do this?”  Suddenly he stood in the sand area looking around at all the children.

Georgios: Can someone please help me?
(children whizzed by running, then Philippos stopped in his tracks)
Philippos: Do you need help?
Georgios: Thank you!

As Georgios absorbs his environment day by day, we see how he seems to be adjusting comfortably with everyone and everything in his surroundings. Our community of care gave him enough comfort and confidence to spread his wings and reach out and ask for help, and was validated with a delightfully natural reciprocity.
Mom related that Georgios said to her:  “thank you mom for choosing this school for me. I love this school.”
