In the West Wing, we focus on introducing a wide variety of tools, techniques, and materials for the children to use. Tape as a resist is one we are experimenting with now.Dashiell: We had to cut the tape.
Aiden: And put it on the paper.
Olive: I made an “X” with the tape.
Josephine: This part is shiny. I like it. That’s why I want to save it.
As children practice adding layers to paintings, they can see and appreciate the subtle or major changes that happen to the work. Part of that appreciation is considering what is important to save. We offer them a tool in case they want to preserve some of the work and introduce different techniques. This way, the children can begin to refine their eye for what is really important to them. What is their story? What is their story together? -Teacher Amy & Kris
