The paper airplane group is making a large scale model of an airplane in the front yard. When debate began about whether or not there should be propellers and what shape the nose should be, the kids suggested visiting the Santa Monica Airport to check out planes. How many wheels does a plane have anyway?
Yesterday, Adriana and Kris and the group took the #14 bus to Airport and walked through the park to the viewing pad to observe, have snack and make a few drawings.
Brendan: There are 3 kinds of airplanes: gliders, propellers, another kind and jets. There are 4 kinds.
Back at school, the friends shared what they learned about planes:
Felix: Jets have pointy ends.
Chase: Propellers have propellers. Their ends are rounder.
Kai: Jet tails have a thing on top and the jets are circles. They’re on the tail.
Raven: They all drive and they all can fly.
In the front yard, Adriana will offer the paper airplane group some time to reflect on their drawings and adjust their design for the airplane model. We wonder if this model will be a jet or a propeller plane.
